    Overview

Boruto is a Japanese manga series that continues the story of Masashi Kishimoto's Naruto, focusing on the next generation of ninja in the Hidden Leaf Village. The series began serialization as Boruto: Naruto Next Generations in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump on May 9, 2016, before moving to the monthly magazine V Jump on July 20, 2019. The first part concluded in April 2023, and a second part titled Boruto: Two Blue Vortex started in August 2023, depicting a timeskip where Boruto is falsely accused of killing his parents but continues to protect his home.

The manga was initially written by Ukyō Kodachi, who co-wrote the 2015 film Boruto: Naruto the Movie, with illustrations by Mikio Ikemoto and supervision by Kishimoto. Kodachi stepped down in November 2020, and Kishimoto took over writing from volume 14 onward. The series has 28 volumes as of 2025, with over 10 million copies in circulation in Japan. Ikemoto has expressed a goal of keeping the entire Naruto saga within approximately 100 volumes, aiming to complete Boruto in fewer than 30.

The story explores themes of legacy, father-son relationships, and the clash between tradition and technological advancement in a modernized Hidden Leaf Village. Boruto struggles to connect with his busy father Naruto, now Hokage, while facing threats from the Otsutsuki clan. The series has received mixed-to-positive reviews, with initial criticism of Boruto's character giving way to praise for his growth and the darker tone of Two Blue Vortex. Ikemoto's fight scene artwork has been consistently lauded.
