    Overview

Black Clover is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Yūki Tabata. It began serialization in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump on February 16, 2015, running there until August 2023. The series then moved to Jump Giga in December 2023 and concluded in May 2026. Its chapters have been collected into 37 tankōbon volumes as of September 2025. The story is set in a world where magic is an everyday part of life, and nearly everyone is born with the ability to use it. It follows Asta, a boy born without any magic in a society that values magical power above all else. After receiving a mysterious five-leaf clover grimoire that grants him anti-magic abilities, Asta joins the Magic Knights squad known as the Black Bulls, alongside his rival Yuno, who wields immense magical power. Together, they strive to become the Wizard King, the realm's most powerful mage.

The manga was first adapted into an original video animation by Xebec Zwei in 2017. A 170-episode anime television series produced by Pierrot aired on TV Tokyo from October 3, 2017 to March 30, 2021. A second season of the anime is set to premiere in 2026. An anime film titled Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King premiered simultaneously in Japanese theaters and on Netflix in June 2023. The film was nominated for Best Anime Movie at the 2023 Crunchyroll Anime Awards. A stage play adaptation, Black Clover: The Stage, was performed in Japan in 2023, and several video games have been released, including Black Clover: Quartet Knights and Black Clover: Phantom Knights.

By September 2025, the manga had over 24 million copies in circulation worldwide, including both physical and digital copies. The series is published in English by Viz Media, LLC, and in other regions by Elex Media Komputindo (Indonesia) and Ivrea (Argentina/Spain). Critical reception has improved over time, with early criticism for being derivative giving way to praise for its fast-paced action, character development, and world-building. Asta's unwavering determination and the rivalry with Yuno have become notable elements within the shōnen genre, helping maintain Weekly Shōnen Jump's popularity during the late 2010s and early 2020s.
