Keisuke Itagaki crafted this saga between 1991 and 1999, filling Weekly Shōnen Champion with hyper-violent action and exaggerated anatomy that defies realistic physics. The narrative dissects what separates humans from apex predators, juxtaposing Baki's youthful drive against Yujiro's cold, monstrous power. While the original run collected into 42 volumes, the franchise expanded into sequels like Baki New Grappler and Baki Son of Ogre, each adding new layers to the Hanma family drama.

The series gained massive traction in the West after Netflix released animated adaptations starting in 2018, introducing a new generation to the grit of the Underground Arena.
