Bong Joon-ho's career is marked by historic achievements. Parasite won the Palme d'Or and four Oscars, including Best Picture, a first for a non-English-language film. He is one of only three directors to win both the Palme d'Or and the Oscar for Best Director in the same year. His films have grossed over $600 million worldwide combined. He has won over 100 awards, including two BAFTAs, a Golden Globe, and multiple Grand Bell and Blue Dragon Film Awards. In 2020, he was named one of Time's 100 Most Influential People, and in 2023 he received the Légion d'Honneur from France.
