    About

José Roberto Pulido Jr. arrived in Edinburg, Texas, on April 25, 1973, to a family already steeped in music. He grew up watching his father, Roberto Pulido, lead the band Los Super Reyes and decided early on that he wanted to carry that torch. By the mid-1990s, he had carved out a distinct path as a singer and songwriter who spoke directly to Mexican-American teenagers. His 1995 debut album Desvelado hit the EMI Latin label and quickly climbed the charts. It reached number nine on the Billboard Top Latin Albums list and secured platinum certification from the RIAA. The title track became an anthem that introduced Tejano sounds to a younger generation, even if some critics initially attributed his rise to his famous last name. Pulido kept the momentum going with Enséñame in 1996, which landed at number two on the Regional Mexican Albums chart. That record earned him nominations for both the Tejano Music Award and the Lo Nuestro Award. In 1998, he made history by selling out the Auditorio Coca-Cola in Monterrey, a feat no Tejano artist had achieved before. Between 1998 and 2000, he swept the Male Entertainer of the Year title at the Tejano Music Awards three years in a row. As the genre's popularity waned around the turn of the millennium, his later albums like Enfermo de Amor faced steeper commercial challenges. Despite this, he remained a steady presence in the industry while branching into acting. His transition to screen began in 2003 with the lead role in the TV movie La Decada Furiosa. He later appeared in telenovelas such as Fuego en la sangre and Qué pobres tan ricos, adding over a dozen film and television credits to his resume. After a three-year break following the 2007 album release, he returned with Dias de Ayer in 2010 and took on roles in films like Noches Con Platanito. By 2024, Pulido announced a farewell tour to mark the end of his recording career. He then pivoted to politics, launching a campaign for public office in Texas. He ran as the Democratic nominee for the state's 15th congressional district and defeated Republican incumbent Monica De La Cruz in the 2026 election.
