Sir Bobby Charlton's career is marked by historic achievements. He was the first English player to win the Ballon d'Or, and his 49 goals for England stood as the national record for 47 years. He captained Manchester United to become the first English club to win the European Cup, scoring twice in the final. His 249 goals for United remained the club record until Wayne Rooney surpassed it. He was named in the FIFA 100 list by Pelé and inducted into the English Football Hall of Fame as an inaugural member in 2002. His knighthood in 1994 recognised his contributions to football and charity.

AwardsCharlton won the Ballon d'Or in 1966 as European Footballer of the Year and was runner-up in 1967 and 1968.
