Blackburn Rovers Football Club, based in Blackburn, Lancashire, has been a fixture in English football since its founding in 1875. The club plays its home games at Ewood Park, a venue it has called home since 1890. Their motto, Arte et Labore, translates to "By Skill and Hard Work." A fierce rivalry with nearby Burnley fuels the East Lancashire derby, one of the oldest in English football. Currently competing in the EFL Championship, the second tier of English football, Blackburn Rovers boasts a rich history that includes multiple top-flight titles and FA Cup triumphs.

Formed as a founding member of The Football League in 1888, the club enjoyed early dominance, winning five FA Cup finals in the 19th century. They added league championships in 1912 and 1914, and a sixth FA Cup in 1928. After decades of fluctuating fortunes, including relegations and promotions, the club experienced a modern golden era after local businessman Jack Walker took over in 1991. Walker appointed Kenny Dalglish as manager, and the club secured promotion to the newly formed Premier League in 1992. Two years later, Blackburn Rovers stunned English football by winning the Premier League title in 1995, a feat that remains one of the most remarkable underdog stories in the sport. Blackburn Rovers was born on November 5, 1875, during a meeting at the Leger Hotel, organized by John Lewis and Arthur Constantine. The club's first match, a 1-1 draw against Church, took place on December 18, 1875, at Oozehead Ground. After playing at several venues including Pleasington Cricket Ground and Alexandra Meadows, the club settled at Leamington Road in 1881, before moving to Ewood Park in 1890, where they have remained ever since. Ewood Park once held 62,522 spectators in 1929, a record that stands today.

The early years brought remarkable success. Blackburn won three consecutive FA Cups from 1884 to 1886, a feat no other extant club has matched. They added two more FA Cups in 1890 and 1891, and a sixth in 1928. League championships followed in 1911-12 and 1913-14, cementing the club as a powerhouse. The interwar period saw a decline, and the club spent much of the mid-20th century bouncing between divisions. A brief resurgence in the 1950s featured stars like Ronnie Clayton and Bryan Douglas, but silverware remained elusive until the 1990s.

The Jack Walker era transformed the club. The local steel magnate invested heavily, signing Alan Shearer from Southampton for a then-club record £3.5 million in 1992. Under Kenny Dalglish, Blackburn won the Premier League in 1994-95, finishing one point ahead of Manchester United. Shearer's 34 league goals that season earned him the Golden Boot. The club later won the League Cup in 2002, but financial troubles after Walker's death in 2000 led to relegation in 1999 and again in 2012.
