Rihanna released "Bitch Better Have My Money" as a standalone single on March 26, 2015, through Roc Nation and Westbury Road Entertainment. The track was recorded in 2014 and runs for 3 minutes and 39 seconds. It was not included on any studio album, arriving during the period when Rihanna was working on her eighth studio project, later released as ANTI in 2016.

The song was written by a team that included Rihanna, Kanye West, Travis Scott, WondaGurl, Deputy, and Bibi Bourelly. Bourelly, then a 20-year-old songwriter from Berlin, initially created the track over unfinished beats from Deputy at a Los Angeles studio. Production was handled by Kuk Harrell, with co-production by Kanye West and additional work from Deputy, WondaGurl, and Travis Scott. The result was a hard-edged trap song with menacing, bass-heavy production, a sharp departure from the gentle acoustic tone of Rihanna's previous single "FourFiveSeconds."

Commercially, the song reached number 15 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 5 on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. It peaked at number 3 in France, number 7 in Switzerland, and number 10 in New Zealand, among other territories.
