BIGBANG debuted on August 19, 2006, at the YG Family 10th Anniversary Concert, with their first single album Bigbang released days later. The group was formed through a reality show that documented the intense training and elimination process. Original trainee Jang Hyun-seung was cut, leaving the final five: G-Dragon, T.O.P, Taeyang, Daesung, and Seungri. G-Dragon, who had trained for 11 years, became the leader and chief producer, shaping the group's sound.

Their early hits Lies (2007) and Haru Haru (2008) dominated Korean charts and established them as a top act. The 2012 album Alive brought international attention with Fantastic Baby becoming a global phenomenon.
