A right-arm medium-fast bowler renowned for his ability to swing the ball both ways with precision, he has established himself as one of India's most consistent and experienced pace bowlers across all three formats. As of late 2026, at age 36, he remains a vital asset to the Indian cricket team, having recently made a remarkable comeback to the national squad after a four-year hiatus from international cricket.

Kumar is widely celebrated for his unique skill set that combines accuracy with the ability to reverse swing the old ball. Growing up in Meerut, Bhuvneshwar Kumar Singh displayed an early passion for cricket despite limited resources. He honed his skills on the hard pitches of Uttar Pradesh, playing for local teams before joining the state's senior setup. His dedication was evident as he navigated the domestic circuit, developing a distinctive bowling style that relied heavily on line, length, and the art of reverse swinging the ball.

A pivotal moment in his pre-fame career occurred when he was just 19 years old. During a domestic first-class match, he dismissed legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar for a duck. This feat signaled his immense potential to the wider cricketing world and marked him as a talent worth watching. Before his international breakthrough, he worked tirelessly in the Ranji Trophy, refining his craft and proving his mettle against some of the best players in the country. These formative years laid the foundation for what would become a storied international career. [edit]

After his last match for India in November 2022, he faced a four-year absence from the national side due to injury and competition.

In October 2026, after 1,414 days away, he was recalled to the T20I squad for the tour of New Zealand. This return was hailed as a triumph of longevity and fitness, with coaches citing his experience and ability to bowl in death overs as key factors.
