Bell Textron

Bell Textron is an American aerospace manufacturer headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas, with deep roots in aviation history. Founded by Lawrence Dale Bell on July 10, 1935, as Bell Aircraft Corporation in Buffalo, New York, the company made its first mark with the Bell X-1, the plane that broke the sound barrier in 1947. That pioneering spirit carried into rotorcraft when Arthur M. Young designed the Bell 47, the first commercially licensed helicopter, in 1946. Textron Inc., a conglomerate based in Providence, Rhode Island, acquired Bell Aircraft in 1960, and the company became Bell Helicopter Textron, now simply Bell Textron.

Today, Bell Textron is a dominant player in both military and commercial vertical lift. Its military lineup includes the V-22 Osprey tiltrotor, built with Boeing, along with the AH-1Z Viper attack helicopter and UH-1Y Venom utility helicopter for the U.S. Marine Corps. In 2022, Bell won the U.S. Army's Future Long-Range Assault Aircraft contract for the V-280 Valor, a next-gen tiltrotor. On the commercial side, the company produces the Bell 505 Jet Ranger X, Bell 429, and the upcoming Bell 525 Relentless. Bell generates about $5.5 billion in annual revenue, roughly 35% of Textron's total, and operates assembly plants in Fort Worth and Mirabel, Quebec, Canada, serving customers in over 100 countries.

Bell's brand identity revolves around innovation and military reliability, with a strong emphasis on tiltrotor technology. The company uses the tagline "One Bell" on social media to unify its corporate identity. However, the V-22 Osprey has faced years of safety scrutiny due to multiple fatal crashes, including a 2023 incident in Japan that led to a temporary fleet-wide grounding. Despite these challenges, Bell remains a top-tier aerospace manufacturer, competing directly with Sikorsky, Airbus Helicopters, and Leonardo.[edit]
