Battle Angel Alita: Last Order

Yukito Kishiro rebooted the narrative of his cyberpunk saga with Battle Angel Alita: Last Order, a direct continuation that diverges sharply from the original series' conclusion. Instead of Alita becoming flesh and blood through a space flower, this story begins immediately after her death at the hands of Vector. Her brain survives and is reconstructed by the eccentric scientist Desty Nova in the floating sky city of Tiphares. This shift allows Kishiro to explore a vastly larger universe, moving the action from the dusty streets of Scrapyard and the heights of Zalem into the depths of Melchizedek and eventually across the solar system.

The plot expands rapidly as Alita joins the Space Angels team to compete in the Zenith of Things Tournament (ZOTT). This high-stakes interplanetary competition serves as the backbone for the middle section of the manga, pitting Alita against warriors like the Panzer Kunst and testing the limits of cyborg biology. The series ran for fourteen years, concluding in 2014 after spanning 19 tankōbon volumes and over 2,000 pages of dense storytelling. It sets the stage for the subsequent Mars Chronicle arc while establishing complex themes about free will, memory, and the definition of humanity. [edit]
