In his second year as Gotham’s dark knight, Batman (Robert Pattinson) operates as a creature of the night, driven by vengeance for his parents’ murder. He’s still learning the ropes, striking fear into the hearts of criminals, but not yet a fully formed hero. His only ally in the police department is Lieutenant James Gordon, who secretly brings him crime scene photos. Gotham is drowning in corruption, and the criminal underworld is ruled by mob boss Carmine Falcone.
A new threat emerges in the form of the Riddler (Paul Dano), a sadistic killer who targets Gotham’s prominent figures. The Riddler leaves behind a trail of enigmatic riddles and puzzles at each crime scene, challenging Batman to uncover his identity and motives. Batman’s investigation leads him to Selina Kyle, also known as Catwoman (Zoë Kravitz), a mysterious thief whose own quest for vengeance intertwines with Batman’s.
As Batman and Gordon work together to decipher the Riddler’s clues, they uncover a vast conspiracy that implicates some of Gotham’s most powerful citizens, revealing how deeply corruption runs through the city’s veins. The Riddler’s actions escalate, culminating in a plan to flood Gotham and expose its hidden sins. Batman must confront not only the Riddler but also his own methods and identity, pushing him to evolve from a symbol of vengeance into a symbol of hope for the beleaguered city.

Critical Consensus
A grim, grounded, and gripping noir-thriller, The Batman is a dark, brooding take on the caped crusader that successfully balances detective grit with visceral action. Robert Pattinson delivers a compelling performance as a younger, more vulnerable Batman, supported by a strong cast and a visually stunning Gotham City.
