Barry Jenkins holds a unique place in cinema history as the second Black director to win the Academy Award for Best Picture. His film Moonlight achieved a historic sweep of major awards, including the Oscar, Golden Globe, BAFTA, and Critics' Choice Award for Best Picture. He is the only director to win both the DGA Award for Feature Film and Limited Series directing in consecutive decades. His work has been recognized by Time magazine as one of the 100 most influential people globally. Jenkins has also received the Vanguard Award at the GLAAD Media Awards for his contributions to LGBTQ+ representation and an honorary doctorate from Florida State University.
