She was ranked No. 25 on the American Film Institute's list of the greatest female screen legends, placing her among the most iconic stars of the Golden Age. Her performance in Mogambo earned her an Oscar nomination, and her role in The Night of the Iguana brought dual nominations from the Golden Globes and BAFTA.
