Maybelle Reilly was born in Brooklyn, New York. She married Ben Parker, a kind and principled man, and the couple settled in Forest Hills, Queens. After Peter Parker's parents, Richard and Mary Parker, died in a plane crash, May and Ben took in their infant nephew and raised him as their own son.
