Atlante Fútbol Club stands as one of Mexico's oldest and most storied institutions, tracing its roots back to January 1, 1916. The club navigated a complex identity evolution starting as Sinaloa before becoming Lusitania and U-53, finally settling on the name Atlante in 1921. As a founding member of Mexico's first professional league, the team has maintained a presence at the highest level despite facing significant turbulence throughout the decades.

Currently competing in Liga MX, the club secured its return to the top flight for the 2026–27 season through a franchise acquisition rather than promotion. This strategic move allowed Atlante to re-enter elite competition while keeping its operational base in Mexico City after a period where financial struggles forced a relocation to Cancún in 2014. The club's early dominance saw them claim their first league title in the 1946–47 season, followed by two Copa México trophies. Their international prestige peaked with victories in the CONCACAF Champions Cup during 1983 and 1993, distinguishing Atlante as a regional power. A severe financial crisis in 2014 forced the club to relocate to Cancún and eventually drop to the second division. After several years away from the top tier, Atlante returned to Liga MX for the 2026–27 campaign via a franchise purchase.
