Assimi Goïta's achievements are military and political. He is the only person to have led two successful coups in Mali within nine months, and he transitioned from interim to elected president in 2025. He co-founded the Alliance of Sahel States, a new regional bloc, and oversaw Mali's withdrawal from ECOWAS. His military decorations include the United Nations Medal for peacekeeping service in Darfur and the French Defense Medal at the Gold level.
