    Overview

Yusei Matsui's Assassination Classroom turns the classroom dynamic on its head. The story follows Class 3-E, a group of misfit junior high students tasked with a deadly assignment: assassinate their homeroom teacher, a tentacled creature known as Koro-sensei. The catch? Koro-sensei is the fastest being alive, capable of Mach 20 speed, and he has threatened to destroy the Earth in one year. The students must use their wits, teamwork, and unconventional weapons to kill him before the deadline. But as they get to know their teacher, they discover he is not a monster but a caring mentor who pushes them to reach their full potential.

Serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump from July 2, 2012 to March 19, 2016, the manga spans 21 tankobon volumes. The first volume hit shelves in Japan on November 2, 2012, with the final volume following on July 4, 2016. Viz Media brought the series to English readers starting August 5, 2014, and wrapped up with the 21st volume on February 6, 2018. Matsui, previously known for the dark comedy series Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro, blends action, humor, and heart in a story that explores themes of education, redemption, and the value of life. The series has been adapted into an anime by Lerche, a live-action film, and multiple OVAs. By October 2023, the manga had sold over 27 million copies worldwide, a testament to its wide appeal.

What sets Assassination Classroom apart is its ability to balance absurd premises with genuine emotional depth. The students of Class 3-E are not just killers in training; they are individuals struggling with personal insecurities, and Koro-sensei's lessons help them grow. The series has been praised for its character development, clever plot twists, and its refusal to shy away from moral complexity. Whether you are here for the action or the heartfelt moments, this is a story that sticks with you long after the final chapter.
