Asobi no Kankei

Sekina Aoi and Kurehito Misaki team up for Asobi no Kankei, a light novel series that explores the messy boundaries between friendship and romance. Fujimi Shobo launched the project under its Fujimi Fantasia Bunko imprint in May 2025, releasing four volumes by August 2026. The story focuses on high school students navigating complex social dynamics where playfulness often masks deeper feelings. Misaki's character designs bring a distinct visual flair to the narrative, grounding the emotional beats in relatable teenage experiences.

The plot centers on Kotarou Tokiwa, known as Banjo, a dropout who manages the board game café Kurumaza. He develops feelings for Mifuru, a part-time worker there, while the group navigates secrets behind their playful facades. This setting allows the characters to use games as a shield against vulnerability, creating a unique blend of comedy and drama that avoids standard rom-com tropes.

By late 2025, the series gained traction through promotional events featuring a music video by Makeine's Hikaru Tono. Its commercial success peaked in early 2026 when it secured the number one spot in the Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! rankings for that year. Sales data from ORICON confirmed strong performance during its initial run, solidifying its place among top-selling titles. [edit]
