Asda

Asda is a major supermarket retailer in the United Kingdom, operating hundreds of stores and petrol stations across the country. The company's history began in 1949 as Associated Dairies and Farm Stores, officially forming as Asda in 1965. Based in Leeds, Asda has grown to become a significant player in the UK retail market.

The company underwent a major ownership change in 1999 when it was acquired by American retail giant Walmart. For many years, Asda was the second-largest supermarket chain in the UK by market share. In early 2021, a new chapter began with the Issa brothers and TDR Capital acquiring a majority stake in the business, though Walmart continues to hold a significant interest and maintains commercial ties. Subsequently, TDR Capital increased its stake to become the majority shareholder.

Beyond its core grocery offerings, Asda has expanded its services to include financial products through Asda Money and operates a mobile virtual network. The brand's strategy has consistently focused on delivering value and convenience to its customers.
