AS Roma

Associazione Sportiva Roma, commonly known as AS Roma, is a professional football club based in Rome, Italy. Founded on June 7, 1927, through a merger of three older Roman clubs—Roman, Alba-Audace, and Fortitudo—the club was created with the backing of the fascist-aligned Italian Football Federation to establish a single, powerful team representing the capital. Roma has spent almost its entire history in Serie A, the top tier of Italian football, except for a brief relegation in the 1951–52 season.

The club's home colors are carmine red and golden yellow, earning them the nickname I Giallorossi (The Yellow and Reds). Their badge features a she-wolf suckling Romulus and Remus, referencing the founding myth of Rome. Since 1953, Roma has played at the Stadio Olimpico, a 72,000-seat venue shared with city rivals Lazio. The club's passionate fan base, especially the Curva Sud, creates one of the most intense atmospheres in Italian football.

Roma has won three Serie A titles (1941–42, 1982–83, 2000–01), nine Coppa Italia titles, and two Supercoppa Italiana trophies. In Europe, they claimed the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup in 1960–61 and the UEFA Europa Conference League in 2021–22. AS Roma was born from a merger orchestrated by Italo Foschi, a fascist party official, who sought to unify Rome's fragmented football scene. The three founding clubs—Roman, Alba-Audace, and Fortitudo—were relegated to lower divisions, but Roma was granted a wild card to compete in the top-flight Divisione Nazionale. The club's early years were modest, but they secured their first Coppa Italia in 1964 and added another in 1969. The 1982–83 season marked a turning point: under manager Nils Liedholm and with star players like Bruno Conti and Falcão, Roma won their second Serie A title. The following year, they reached the European Cup final, losing to Liverpool on penalties.

The 2000–01 Scudetto, Roma's third, was delivered by manager Fabio Capello and fueled by Francesco Totti, Gabriel Batistuta, and Cafu. The club then experienced a period of near-misses in Serie A, finishing runners-up multiple times. In European competitions, Roma reached the UEFA Cup final in 1991 and the Champions League semifinals in 2018. The arrival of José Mourinho in 2021 brought immediate success: Roma won the inaugural UEFA Europa Conference League in 2022, defeating Feyenoord in the final. Mourinho was sacked in January 2024 and replaced by club legend Daniele De Rossi, who led a resurgence before being dismissed himself in September 2024.
