AS Monaco is a professional football club based in the Principality of Monaco, one of the most successful and distinctive clubs in French football. Although located in Monaco rather than France, the club competes in the French league system, playing in Ligue 1, and is a member of the French Football Federation. Founded on August 23, 1924, the club plays its home matches at Stade Louis II, a stadium in the Fontvieille district with a capacity of around 16,360. The stadium, rebuilt in 1985, is famous for its nine archways and is the only home ground in the world where a top-division club plays in a foreign country's league.

Monaco has won eight Ligue 1 titles, five Coupe de France trophies, and reached the UEFA Champions League final in 2004, losing to Porto. The club's red-and-white colors mirror the principality's flag, and its academy is renowned for producing world-class talent like Thierry Henry, Kylian Mbappé, and David Trezeguet. AS Monaco was founded in 1924 as a merger of local clubs, turning professional in 1933. The club won its first Ligue 1 title in 1961 under manager Lucien Leduc, who also led them to the 1963 double. The 1970s and 1980s saw periods of dominance, with titles in 1978, 1982, and 1988. Under Arsène Wenger, who managed from 1987 to 1994, Monaco won the 1988 league title and reached the 1992 European Cup Winners' Cup final.

The club's golden era came in the early 2000s. Managed by Didier Deschamps, Monaco reached the 2004 Champions League final, eliminating Real Madrid and Chelsea before falling to Porto. That team featured stars like Ludovic Giuly, Fernando Morientes, and Jérôme Rothen. After a period of financial struggles, Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev took over in 2011, injecting funds that led to the 2017 Ligue 1 title and a Champions League semifinal that same year, powered by a young Kylian Mbappé, Bernardo Silva, and Radamel Falcao.

In recent years, Monaco has stabilized as a top-four side. The 2023-24 season saw them finish second under Adi Hütter, securing Champions League group stage football.
