His distinctive visual style includes body paint inspired by Venom for his indie runs and a dark-colored mask mimicking Hologram for his AEW tenure. [edit]

Born Jonathan Saharawi Barragán González in Mexico City, he entered the world of professional wrestling at the age of sixteen in 2007. While details about his early schooling remain private, his dedication to the craft was evident from the start. He began training locally before making his debut on the Mexican independent scene shortly after turning seventeen. His formative years were defined by a relentless pursuit of excellence across regional promotions, where he developed a unique style that set him apart from traditional luchadores.

He became a central figure in the stable Los Indystrongtibles alongside Belial and Impulso. This trio dominated the Mexican independent circuit between 2013 and 2018, becoming synonymous with the "Indy Strong" movement. Their matches revitalized the local scene through high-energy performances and innovative storytelling, earning Arez a reputation as a "wrestler's wrestler." It was during this era that he adopted the ring name "Arez," which quickly became a brand unto itself. Fans began recognizing his agility and ability to perform complex maneuvers despite his large frame. The team's success laid the groundwork for his future rise to prominence in larger organizations. [edit]

Arez signed with Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide in 2018, marking his entry into a major promotion. He achieved immediate success by winning the AAA World Mixed Tag Team Championship and the AAA World Tag Team Championship in his debut year. He also became the inaugural La Leyenda Azul Blue Demon Champion, a title created to honor the legacy of the legendary luchador. Between 2019 and 2023, he continued to be a top star for AAA while making sporadic appearances in the United States for Impact Wrestling and Major League Wrestling.

In 2024, he departed AAA after a six-year tenure, leaving behind a legacy as one of the promotion's most decorated stars. The following year, in 2025, he signed with All Elite Wrestling as a masked wrestler named "El Clon." He joined the Don Callis Family faction, utilizing a character design identical to the wrestler Hologram but in darker colors. This move solidified his status as a major international talent. As of 2026, he continues to perform for AEW as El Clon while maintaining appearances for CMLL and the independent circuit as Arez. [edit]

Arez is celebrated for his "underdog-to-hero" narrative on the independent circuit and his seamless transition to the main roster in AEW. His public image is built on athleticism, mystery, and loyalty to his roots in Mexican lucha libre. As Arez, he wrestles in advanced body and face painting inspired by the Marvel character Venom, featuring black and white patterns that resemble the symbiote. This look became an iconic visual identifier for his independent runs. As El Clon, he wears a mask and gear identical to Hologram but in darker colors, adding a layer of intrigue to his character.

Media perception often highlights his technical skill and physical imposing nature. He is viewed as a bridge between the traditional Mexican wrestling style and modern American promotions. His arrival in AEW sparked immediate speculation about his connection to other characters, creating a unique visual identity that stood out on television. [edit]

Fans often refer to themselves as "Arezistas" or simply "Clon fans" depending on the promotion, but these terms are descriptive rather than official designations.

Notable for intense support during his matches, fans often chant his name and react strongly to his high-risk maneuvers. The "Venom" face paint look became an iconic visual identifier for his independent runs, drawing attention from casual viewers and hardcore fans alike. The fanbase is known for its deep appreciation of the "Indy Strong" movement and the technical innovation brought by Los Indystrongtibles. [edit]

Arez's face paint as "Arez" is inspired by the Marvel character Venom, featuring black and white patterns that resemble the symbiote. This choice is rare in traditional lucha libre where masks are the standard. Despite his large size, he is known for exceptional speed and agility. Many fans compare his movement to smaller, faster wrestlers who rely on quickness rather than power.

Additionally, he frequently cites performing death-defying dives and flips that cause crowds to react with shock as part of his lore. [edit]
