Anthea M. Hartig

Hartig's career is marked by a series of firsts and institutional transformations. She is the first woman to lead the National Museum of American History, a milestone that broke a 55-year tradition of male directors. At the California Historical Society, she revitalized a struggling organization, expanding its digital reach and public programs. Her leadership has been recognized through presidential appointments and an endowed chair at the Smithsonian.
