Anna Biller's The Love Witch received a Special Citation from the Los Angeles Film Critics Association for her visionary reinvention of the Technicolor melodrama. The film won Best Feature and Best Director at the Sitges Film Festival, and Biller took home the Fangoria Chainsaw Award for Best Screenplay. Her work is frequently taught in university film studies courses as a key text on the female gaze and feminist horror. In 2019, The Love Witch was released by the Criterion Collection, a rare honor for a contemporary independent film.
