Five years before the events of Rogue One, a cynical scavenger named Cassian Andor stumbles into a rebellion he never wanted to join. Created by Tony Gilroy, the man who reshaped Rogue One's story in rewrites, this Disney+ series jettisons lightsabers and Jedi mysticism entirely. Instead it offers a slow-burn political thriller about the grinding, unglamorous work of building a revolution.

Shot across 50 practical sets at Pinewood Studios and on location in Scotland and the Canary Islands, Andor looks and feels unlike any Star Wars production before it. Production designer Luke Hull built an entire Ferrix street with over 50 structures. The score by Nicholas Britell incorporates recorded factory machinery, a percussive, industrial soundscape that mirrors the show's blue-collar rebellion. The budget, reported at $250 million for Season 1, went into tangible craft: costumes, locations, crowds.

The series earned a 96% Tomatometer score, the highest of any live-action Star Wars show, and grew its audience steadily through word of mouth. Nielsen clocked roughly 1 billion weekly streaming minutes during its run. Cassian Andor lives on the industrial planet Ferrix, scraping together a living as a scavenger and small-time hustler. He has one goal: find his long-lost sister. That plan shatters when two Corporate Security officers try to arrest him and a violent confrontation forces him to flee. The incident draws two very different kinds of attention. Dedra Meero, an ambitious officer in the Imperial Security Bureau, sees Cassian as a thread to pull in her hunt for a growing rebel conspiracy. Luthen Rael, a mysterious operative building that conspiracy, sees Cassian as someone who might be useful.

Season 1 unfolds across three interlocking story arcs. The first follows Cassian's escape from Ferrix and his recruitment by Luthen for a heist on the Imperial garrison at Aldhani. The second tracks Dedra Meero's rise inside the ISB as she correctly identifies the rebel threat while her male superiors dismiss her. The third takes place on Coruscant, where Senator Mon Mothma secretly funnels money to the rebellion while maintaining her public role as a loyal Imperial servant. The Aldhani heist, stealing the Empire's quarterly payroll, succeeds, providing crucial funding for the nascent rebellion. Cassian, who joined only for payment, begins to glimpse what the fight actually means.

Season 2, premiering April 2025, covers the final four years before Rogue One. It is structured as four three-episode blocks, each jumping forward a year. Cassian evolves from reluctant soldier into a committed leader. His relationships with Luthen, Mon Mothma, and the ISB intensify as the galactic horizon darkens. Betrayals, sacrifices, and conflicting agendas test everyone. The season builds toward the moment when Cassian fully embraces his role in the rebellion, setting the stage for his sacrifice in Rogue One.[edit]
