American Sniper

Clint Eastwood's American Sniper drops you into the dust and heat of Iraq alongside Chris Kyle, a Navy SEAL whose 160 confirmed kills made him a legend and a target. Bradley Cooper bulked up and trained with actual SEALs to play Kyle, and the performance is all coiled tension, a man who lives in two worlds and belongs fully to neither. Chris Kyle grows up in Texas learning to hunt from his father, who tells him there are three kinds of people: sheep, wolves, and sheepdogs. During that time he meets Taya at a bar, and their relationship becomes the civilian anchor in a life headed for war.

His first deployment drops him into Ramadi during the Iraq War's deadliest period. Kyle's exceptional marksmanship quickly makes him a protective asset for Marines on patrol. He takes shots that save lives but also has to pull the trigger on a woman and a child, decisions that lodge in his gut and never leave. His reputation grows, and so does the insurgents' desire to kill him. A rival sniper called Mustafa emerges, an Olympic marksman turned enemy, and Kyle becomes obsessed with taking him out.

Between tours, he returns to Taya and their growing family, but he's increasingly distant. She watches him sleep with one eye open, flinch at loud noises, and struggle to connect. Each deployment pulls him deeper into the war's grip. By his fourth tour, in Fallujah, the mission narrows to hunting Mustafa while protecting a Marine unit pinned down in a brutal urban fight.
