Season 3 moves to New Orleans, where a dwindling group of Salem descendants attend Miss Robichaux's Academy for Exceptional Young Ladies. Season 4 is set in 1952 Jupiter, Florida, following a troupe of carnival performers led by Elsa Mars. The freaks include conjoined twins Bette and Dot, strongwoman Ethel, and the lobster-handed Jimmy Darling. They face persecution from townspeople and a murderous clown named Twisty, while Elsa dreams of Hollywood stardom. The season explores otherness, exploitation, and the cruelty of normal society toward those who are different.

Season 5 takes place at the stylish Hotel Cortez in Los Angeles, a building with a sinister history. Detective John Lowe investigates a series of grisly murders connected to the hotel, while the Countess, a centuries-old vampire-like being, presides over its supernatural residents. The hotel's ghostly inhabitants include a fashion-obsessed serial killer and a receptionist who has been dead for decades. Season 6 is presented as a documentary-style true crime series called My Roanoke Nightmare, recounting the terrifying experiences of Shelby and Matt Miller, who move to a North Carolina farmhouse only to encounter the ghosts of the lost Roanoke colony. The season then shifts to a reenactment show where actors portray the real people, only for the actual supernatural forces to attack the production. This meta-narrative structure explores the nature of fear, reality television, and historical trauma.

Season 7 is set in the aftermath of the 2016 U.S. presidential election. Ally Mayfair-Richards, a liberal restaurant owner with multiple phobias, becomes increasingly paranoid as a mysterious cult led by the charismatic Kai Anderson terrorizes her Michigan community. Kai exploits political divisions and fear to recruit followers, while Ally's personal life unravels. The season examines political tribalism, mass hysteria, and how fear can be weaponized.

Season 8 takes place after a nuclear apocalypse destroys civilization. The elite survivors live in Outpost Three, run by the tyrannical Ms. Wilhemina Venable. The arrival of Michael Langdon, a mysterious figure with immense power, signals the beginning of the end times. This season serves as a crossover between Murder House and Coven, bringing back characters and storylines from both seasons to create an epic battle between good and evil.

Season 9 is a slasher homage set in the summer of 1984. Five friends take jobs as counselors at Camp Redwood, a summer camp that was the site of a mass murder years earlier. They soon find themselves hunted by a masked killer named Mr. Jingles, while also contending with the camp's dark history and other supernatural threats. The season pays tribute to 1980s horror films like Friday the 13th while exploring themes of guilt, redemption, and the cyclical nature of violence.

Season 10 is split into two parts. The first, Red Tide, follows struggling writer Harry Gardner and his family as they move to the isolated beach town of Provincetown for the winter. Season 11 is set in 1980s New York City during the AIDS crisis. Season 12 is based on Danielle Valentine's novel Delicate Condition and stars Emma Roberts as Anna Victoria Alcott, an actress desperate to start a family. After multiple failed IVF attempts, Anna becomes convinced that something sinister is targeting her and her unborn child. As her career ascends, her physical and mental health deteriorates, and she struggles to distinguish between paranoia and genuine supernatural threat.
