Amazonas Futebol Clube

Amazonas Futebol Clube, often shortened to Amazonas, is a Brazilian football club based in Manaus, the capital of Amazonas state. Founded on 23 May 2019, the club has quickly climbed the national pyramid. It currently competes in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série C, the third tier of Brazilian football, and in the Campeonato Amazonense, the top state league. The team calls Estádio Municipal Carlos Zamith home, but for bigger matches it moves to the Arena da Amazônia, a venue built for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

The club came to life through the efforts of former administrators from other Manaus-based clubs. Their goal was to build a competitive side and give football in Amazonas a much-needed boost. The strategy paid off sooner than anyone expected. In 2023, Amazonas won the Campeonato Amazonense and followed it up by lifting the Campeonato Brasileiro Série C. That Série C title marked the first time a club from Amazonas had won a national competition.

In the CBF's national club ranking, Amazonas sits as the best-placed team from its state. The rapid rise has drawn attention across Brazilian football, and the club now aims to establish itself in the Série B and push for a spot in the top flight. [edit]

The club was founded in the Zona Leste of Manaus by a group of football administrators who had previously worked with other local sides. Their intention was to create a professional outfit that could compete at a national level, something no Amazonas club had managed before. The early years were spent building a squad and infrastructure, with the club joining the Campeonato Amazonense and working its way through the lower divisions of Brazilian football.

The breakthrough came in 2023. Amazonas won the state championship, beating traditional local rivals in the process, and then went on to win the Série C title. That national trophy was a historic achievement, as no other club from Amazonas had ever won a Brazilian competition. The club's social media accounts proudly describe it as the only Amazonian club to be a Brazilian champion.

Since then, the club has competed in the Série B, though a poor 2025 campaign saw them relegated back to the Série C for 2026. The club has also faced financial and managerial challenges, with president Wesley Couto defending the SAF model and downplaying debts. Off the pitch, the club has expanded its reach through an international partnership with Forward Madison FC of the USL League One, signed in January 2025, which included a loan of a forward. [edit]
