Amazon MGM Studios

Amazon MGM Studios is the film and television production arm of Amazon, born from the 2022 acquisition of the legendary MGM studio for $8.45 billion. Before that, it operated as Amazon Studios, founded in 2010 to create original content for Prime Video. The merger fused Amazon's data-driven, customer-obsessed approach with MGM's century of Hollywood heritage, including a library of 4,000 films and 17,000 TV episodes. That vault holds franchises like James Bond, Rocky, and The Pink Panther, plus classics such as The Wizard of Oz and Singin' in the Rain.

Today, the studio produces a slate of high-profile series and films. Flagship shows include The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Fallout, Reacher, and The Boys. Theatrical releases like Red One and Road House have also come through its pipeline. The company operates out of Culver City, California, with additional offices in Beverly Hills, Seattle, New York, London, and Bangalore. Prime Video, its primary distribution platform, reaches over 240 countries and territories.

Leadership sits under Mike Hopkins, Head of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, who reports to Amazon CEO Andy Jassy. Key executives include Peter Friedlander (head of scripted series), Courtenay Valenti (film), and Sue Kroll (marketing). The studio continues to expand its original content, with upcoming projects like a Tomb Raider series starring Sophie Turner and a new Blade Runner 2099 series.
