About This Album
The title is a nod to a RuPaul's Drag Race meme, which set the tone for an album that treats personal chaos as raw material. Cardi B recorded Am I the Drama? between September 2019 and February 2025, a period that included her divorce, public feuds, and the birth of her second child. The 23-track standard edition runs 70 minutes and pulls from drill, trap, Latin dance, glossy pop, doo-wop, Jersey bounce, and New Orleans bounce. Guests include Megan Thee Stallion, Janet Jackson, Selena Gomez, Summer Walker, Kehlani, Tyla, Lizzo, Cash Cobain, Lourdiz, and Dougie F. Production credits span Ayo the Producer, Keyz, Charlie Heat, London on da Track, TM88, Vinylz, and more than two dozen others.
Released on September 19, 2025 through Atlantic Records, the album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 with 200,000 album-equivalent units. That made Cardi the only female rapper with two number-one album debuts. Pre-existing hits like WAP and Up were folded into the tracklist, pushing the album to a platinum certification on release day. It has since gone triple platinum and sold over 4.6 million units in the US. Eighteen songs from the album charted on the Hot 100, the most ever for a female rap album, and WAP and Up gave it two number-one singles, tying Invasion of Privacy for the most Hot 100 number-ones by a female rap album.
Critical reception was broadly positive. Rolling Stone called it a fittingly grand return. The Guardian gave four stars, praising Cardi's sharp, witty lyrics delivered with brutal vigor, though noting the 70-minute length had some duds. Clash awarded a 7/10, describing the album as an exhalation and a long-awaited memoir that refuses to blot out the truth. The album won Outstanding Album at the 57th NAACP Image Awards and Best Hip-Hop Album at the 52nd American Music Awards. Four singles supported the project: Outside, Imaginary Playerz, Safe featuring Kehlani, and ErrTime. Outside became Cardi's thirteenth top ten on the Hot 100 and the first song by a female rapper to debut in the top ten since her 2024 single Enough (Miami).
