Nelson Gonzalez and Alex Aguila launched Alienware in 1996 from a small office in Aliso Viejo, California. The two former colleagues identified a gap in the market for gaming rigs that combined superior performance with distinctive, aggressive aesthetics. Early models featured signature angular chassis and glowing alien head logos that set the brand apart from standard beige boxes.

Dell Inc. acquired the company in 2006 to bolster its presence in the enthusiast market. Following the purchase, operations moved to Round Rock, Texas, where Dell maintains its global headquarters. The acquisition allowed Alienware to leverage Dell's supply chain while preserving its unique design language and community-focused marketing strategies under Frank Azor's long tenure as Vice President.

Today the brand operates within Dell's Gaming division, focusing exclusively on high-end desktops, laptops, and peripherals. Recent product lines integrate Intel's Arrow Lake-HX processors and NVIDIA GeForce RTX graphics cards.
