Iñárritu is one of the most decorated filmmakers of his generation. He is only the third director in history to win back-to-back Best Director Oscars, a feat he accomplished with Birdman and The Revenant. He also remains the only director to win the DGA Award for Outstanding Directing two years in a row. His VR installation Carne y Arena earned a Special Achievement Academy Award, the first ever for a virtual reality work.
