About
Alejandro Baillères Gual was born in May 1960 in Mexico, the son of billionaire industrialist Alberto Baillères. He built his own career inside the family's sprawling business empire, eventually becoming CEO of Grupo Nacional Provincial, one of Mexico's largest insurance companies. A Stanford University graduate, Baillères Gual holds board seats at Peñoles and Grupo BAL, both controlled by his father, as well as at Fresnillo plc, the silver and gold miner listed on the London Stock Exchange. His directorships extend across a range of other companies, placing him at the center of a network that spans mining, insurance, retail, and financial services. Grupo BAL, the parent holding company, oversees operations that include Peñoles, Fresnillo, Grupo Palacio de Hierro, and Profuturo GNP. Through these roles, Baillères Gual has helped steer the family's interests through shifts in commodity prices, regulatory changes, and Mexico's evolving insurance market. He keeps a low public profile compared with his father, but his position as CEO of GNP and his board work at Peñoles and Fresnillo give him influence over decisions that affect thousands of employees and billions in revenue. Born into one of Latin America's wealthiest families, he has carved out a reputation as a steady operator within the group rather than a headline-seeking executive.
