You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love

Olivia Rodrigo's third studio album, released June 12, 2026 through Geffen Records, splits its title across two sides: the A-side, labeled "Girl So in Love," chronicles the giddy rush of new romance, while the B-side, "You Seem Pretty Sad," traces its unraveling. Recorded at Amusement Studios in Los Angeles and produced entirely by Dan Nigro, the album marks Rodrigo's first to feature a guest artist, Robert Smith of The Cure appears on "What's Wrong with Me."

The album represents a deliberate stylistic pivot. Where SOUR and GUTS drew from pop-rock and pop-punk, this record pulls from 1980s new wave, dream pop, and college rock, drawing comparisons to Gary Numan and R.E.M. without sounding derivative. Rodrigo told British Vogue the album consists of "sad love songs," explaining that her favorite romantic songs "were beautiful because they had a tinge of fear or yearning in them." The visual aesthetic shifts from her signature purple to baby pink, reflected in the cover art and marketing campaign.

Commercially, the album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 with 485,000 album-equivalent units, including 273,000 pure sales and 164,000 vinyl LPs, the largest sales week for a woman on that format. It also set a 2026 record for the largest streaming opening by a female act, with 218.41 million on-demand audio streams.
