About This Album
March 29, 2019 marked the arrival of When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?, the debut studio album from Billie Eilish. Recorded inside Finneas O'Connell's bedroom in Highland Park, California, the project blends electropop, art pop, and industrial elements into a thirteen-track journey. The lyrics explore heavy themes like suicide, addiction, and mental health through a lens of dark humor and horror, often inspired by Eilish's experiences with sleep paralysis.
The record dominated global charts immediately upon release, selling over 1.3 million copies in the United States by June 2019. Seven singles emerged from the sessions, including the multi-platinum hits Bury a Friend and Bad Guy. Critics praised the unique production and vocal delivery right away. At the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards, the LP secured Album of the Year alongside Record of the Year and Song of the Year for its lead single. Eilish also claimed Best New Artist, becoming the youngest winner of Album of the Year and the first person born in the 21st century to take home a Grammy.
