Marrow Deep

Marrow Deep arrives on August 28, 2026, as the ninth studio album from Mastodon and their first release under Loma Vista Recordings. The record marks a definitive shift in the band's history, serving as their debut as a five-piece following the death of founding guitarist Brent Hinds in 2025. Recorded throughout that year with producers Patrik Berger and Kurt Ballou, the sessions incorporated new members keyboardist João Nogueira and guitarist Nick Johnston to expand the group's sonic palette beyond their traditional guitar-driven sound.

Thematically, the twelve-track collection functions as a somber exploration of grief, drawing directly from frontman Brann Dailor's loss of his mother and the recent passing of Hinds. Critics noted the blend of heavy riffs with atmospheric textures, describing the result as both cathartic and gritty. Lead singles like Your Ghost Again introduced fans to this emotional core, while the track Snakes for Dinner featured a collaboration with Josh Homme that added further weight to the proceedings.
