About This Album
The twelfth and final studio album from the English rock band The Beatles arrived on May 8, 1970 through Apple Records. Paul McCartney initiated the project with a specific goal to return the group to their live performance roots after years of complex studio work. Rehearsals began at Twickenham Film Studios in January 1969 where friction between members reached a breaking point. George Harrison walked out briefly before the group moved to their own Apple Studios for an impromptu rooftop concert on January 30 that remains their last public appearance.
Phil Spector assembled the final tracks after the band had effectively dissolved, applying his signature Wall of Sound technique to several songs. He added orchestral arrangements and choirs to recordings like The Long and Winding Road, a decision that deeply upset McCartney who felt it distorted the original intent. This conflict led to the 2003 release of Let It Be... Naked, which stripped away the overdubs to present the music closer to the 1969 mixes. The album captures a raw blend of rock, blues, and rhythm and blues that documents the end of an era.
