Jealous Type

Doja Cat stepped into the spotlight on August 21, 2025, with Jealous Type, a track that immediately signaled a sonic shift for her upcoming fifth studio album Vie. The single arrived via Kemosabe and RCA Records to shed the hip-hop heavy production of her 2023 project Scarlet in favor of bright disco-pop textures. Producers Jack Antonoff and Y2K crafted the sound using driving basslines and sharp synth stabs that pull directly from 1980s aesthetics.

Critical outlets responded quickly to the retro energy. Billboard called the disco-pop revival a welcome return to form, while ELLE pointed out the promising '80s influences as a strong start to the album rollout. Music Connection featured the music video as their Video of the Week, highlighting how Doja Cat balanced smooth vocal verses with a powerful chorus and a brief rap interlude.

The song found immediate traction on the charts, debuting at number 28 on the US Billboard Hot 100. Its radio performance proved even stronger, eventually climbing to number one on the Rhythmic Radio chart in November 2025. This peak tied records previously held by Beyoncé and Nicki Minaj for artists reaching this specific milestone. [edit]
