Hackney Diamonds

The Rolling Stones returned with their 24th UK and 26th US studio album, Hackney Diamonds, on October 20, 2023, via Polydor. It marks their first collection of original material since 2005's A Bigger Bang and their first release since drummer Charlie Watts passed away in 2021, though he plays on two tracks recorded in 2019. Produced by Andrew Watt, the record is a blues rock affair with a sharp, energetic sound that harkens back to the band's classic era while feeling fresh. Guest appearances include Elton John, Lady Gaga, Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder, and former bassist Bill Wyman. The 12-track album was preceded by the singles "Angry", "Sweet Sounds of Heaven", and "Mess It Up", and supported by a wide marketing push involving stunts and merchandise.

Critics praised Hackney Diamonds, with many calling it the band's strongest work in decades. It hit number one in 20 countries, including the UK, Austria, Australia, Greece, and Germany, becoming the Stones' 14th UK number one album and their first Christmas chart-topper there. The album earned gold certifications in multiple countries and platinum in Austria, France, and Germany. The Rolling Stones launched the Hackney Diamonds Tour in 2024, and the album won Best Rock Album at the 67th Grammy Awards.[edit]
