Evermore

Taylor Swift's ninth studio album, Evermore, arrived as a surprise on December 11, 2020, via Republic Records. Swift called it a “sister record” to Folklore, which had dropped just five months earlier. She recorded the bulk of Evermore with Aaron Dessner at his Long Pond Studio in the Hudson Valley, building on the folk-leaning sound of its predecessor. The album spans 15 tracks and blends chamber pop, alternative rock, and indie pop, with acoustic guitars, pianos, strings, and subtle synths shaping its atmospheric landscape.

Lyrically, Evermore dives into fictional narratives born from Swift's pandemic isolation. Songs explore longing, grief, regret, and the messiness of unhappy endings, forbidden love, divorce, infidelity. Guest spots from Haim, the National, and Bon Iver add texture. Three singles supported the album: “Willow” hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, while “No Body, No Crime” and “Coney Island” targeted country and alternative radio. Evermore topped charts in the US, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the UK, and earned a four-times platinum certification from the RIAA. Critics praised its bold, experimental songwriting and intricate character studies, though some found it less groundbreaking than Folklore.
