Enema of the State

Blink-182's third album, Enema of the State, dropped on June 1, 1999, via MCA Records. Following the modest success of Dude Ranch and its hit single "Dammit," the Southern California trio aimed higher. They brought in veteran producer Jerry Finn, whose glossy touch would define the pop-punk sound of the early 2000s. This album also marked the debut of drummer Travis Barker, whose precise, fast playing elevated the band's musicianship. Recorded over three months in San Diego and Los Angeles, the album features 12 tracks that blend fast tempos, catchy hooks, and irreverent humor. Lyrically, Tom DeLonge and Mark Hoppus draw from teenage breakups, suburban parties, and UFO conspiracies, while the cover art, adult film star Janine Lindemulder in a nurse uniform, and the title's pun on "enemy of the state" capture the band's playful side.

Enema of the State was a massive commercial success, selling over 15 million copies worldwide. Singles like "What's My Age Again?", "All the Small Things", and "Adam's Song" became MTV staples and radio hits, propelling the band to arena-headlining status. While some critics dismissed the polished production and goofy image as a departure from punk's raw roots, the album's influence is undeniable.
