Kevin Parker stepped away from the polished studio sheen of previous Tame Impala records to craft Deadbeat, a fifth studio album released on October 17, 2025. This project marks his first collaboration with Columbia Records and leans heavily into the raw energy of Western Australia's bush doof scene. Instead of floating psychedelic textures, the 12-track record grounds itself in sweaty, beat-driven rhythms that blend pop rock with electronic dance music.

Fatherhood shapes the lyrical content throughout the LP, moving Parker toward a grittier domestic reality. The track Piece of Heaven explicitly references his daughter's messy bedroom, setting a tone that balances mature themes with high-energy grooves. Parker promoted the release by skipping his usual five-year cycle for a series of pop-up DJ sets across Australia, injecting the live performance energy directly into the album's production.

Critical reaction split sharply between those who found the shift jarring and listeners who appreciated the new direction. One review bluntly titled its critique "Tame Impala's 'Deadbeat' is full of dead beats," while another argued the album rewards repeated listening under the title "How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Tame Impala's Deadbeat." Commercial success came quickly, with the single End of Summer winning Best Dance/Electronic Recording at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards in 2026.
