Deadbeat, the fifth studio album from Tame Impala, arrived on 17 October 2025 via Columbia Records, marking Kevin Parker's first release on the label. The record trades the pristine psychedelia of earlier work for a raw, beat-driven sound rooted in the bush doof culture and rave scene of Western Australia. Across its 12 tracks, Parker blends pop rock with electronic and dance textures, crafting a murky, hypnotic atmosphere that feels both sweaty and expansive. The singles "End of Summer", "Loser", and "Dracula" offered early glimpses of this shift, with the former winning Best Dance/Electronic Recording at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards.

Fatherhood seeps into the album's themes, most explicitly on "Piece of Heaven," which references his daughter's messy bedroom. The record's title and mood reflect a more grounded, domestic perspective, even as the beats push toward the dancefloor. Parker had been doing pop-up DJ sets across the country in the lead-up, a departure from his usual five-year album cycle, and that energy translates directly into the grooves here.

Reception was polarizing. One critic bluntly titled a review "Tame Impala's 'Deadbeat' is full of dead beats," while another wrote "How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Tame Impala's Deadbeat," arguing the album rewards repeated listens. The J Awards nomination for Australian Album of the Year further highlights its cultural footprint, and "Loser" found a second life after being featured in the film Spider-Man: Brand New Day. [edit]
