Albert Rösti, born on 7 August 1967 in the Bernese Oberland town of Frutigen, is a Swiss businessman, lobbyist, and politician who has served as a Member of the Swiss Federal Council since 1 January 2023. Raised in the canton of Bern, Rösti studied agricultural engineering at ETH Zurich and later worked in the energy sector, including as director of the Swiss Oil Association. A longtime member of the Swiss People's Party (SVP/UDC), he presided over the party from 2016 to 2020, steering it through several federal election campaigns. He represented the canton of Bern in the National Council from 2011 until 2022, where he focused on energy policy, infrastructure, and economic affairs. Rösti now heads the Federal Department of Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications (DETEC), making him one of the most influential figures in Swiss politics.
