Prince Aemond Targaryen was the second son of King Viserys I Targaryen and Queen Alicent Hightower. Born into the royal court, he grew up in the shadow of his half-sister Rhaenyra, whom his father favored as heir. Aemond was a studious child, well-read and politically aware, but his father showed him little attention. His older brother Aegon bullied him, and his nephews, the sons of Rhaenyra and Ser Harwin Strong, mocked him for being dragonless. This lack of a dragon became a source of deep humiliation.
