About
Advent International was founded in 1984 by Peter Brooke, a venture capital pioneer who had earlier launched TA Associates. From the start, the firm carved a niche in international buyouts, targeting cross-border deals in Europe and Latin America before most U.S. peers looked overseas. Its first fund closed in 1985, and by November 2025, Advent managed roughly $100 billion in assets, placing it among the top 20 private equity firms globally.
Advent focuses on five core sectors: Business & Financial Services, Healthcare, Industrial, Retail Consumer & Leisure, and Technology. The firm typically acquires controlling stakes in established companies, then applies operational expertise to accelerate growth. It also runs a dedicated credit platform, Advent Credit, and offers co-investment opportunities to limited partners. Over its history, Advent has deployed more than $56 billion in private equity capital across over 375 transactions in 42 countries.
The firm operates from 14 offices in 11 countries, including Boston (headquarters), London, New York, Frankfurt, Madrid, Milan, Paris, Stockholm, São Paulo, Mexico City, Mumbai, Singapore, and Tokyo. In 2024, James Brocklebank became CEO, succeeding David Mussafer who led the firm for more than two decades. Advent's brand is built on deep sector expertise and a long track record of cross-border investing, reinforced through its annual CEO Summit and thought leadership on global M&A trends.
