Adobe InDesign
"Professional desktop publishing software for Windows and macOS"
Overview
Adobe InDesign launched on August 31, 1999, as a powerful desktop publishing tool for Windows and macOS. This application replaced PageMaker after Adobe acquired Aldus Corporation in 1994, stepping into a market where QuarkXPress had taken the lead by 1998. Designers used this software to craft posters, brochures, magazines, and ebooks with precision. It became the first native Mac OS X publishing program and introduced Unicode support alongside advanced typography features like OpenType fonts.
Later iterations bundled it within the Adobe Creative Suite, making professional layout work accessible to graphic designers and production artists everywhere. The software allows users to integrate assets from Photoshop, Illustrator, and other Adobe tools directly into their documents. Recent updates have added stock asset integration capabilities that let creators find resources without leaving the interface.
