Adana Demirspor

Founded on February 3, 1940 by railway workers of the Turkish State Railways (TCDD), Adana Demirspor emerged as a symbol of industrial pride in the Çukurova region. The name literally translates to "Iron Rail," reflecting its origins within the TCDD infrastructure. For decades, the club dominated multiple sports disciplines, particularly water polo where it secured 21 national titles between the 1940s and 1960s. Football remained the primary focus for fans, evolving into a passionate working-class institution that defined the sporting culture of Adana.

The team's recent history marks a stark contrast between past glory and current turmoil. After finishing as runners-up in the Süper Lig during the 2022–23 season and qualifying for European competition for the first time, the club faced a rapid decline. Relegation to the TFF 1. Lig occurred in March 2025 due to on-field performance, but administrative issues regarding unpaid debts and financial mismanagement accelerated their fall. By early 2026, FIFA imposed significant sanctions, docking the team 12 points which effectively sealed their descent to the TFF 2. Lig for the 2026–27 season.

Despite these setbacks, the fanbase known as "Demirsporlu" remains deeply rooted in the city's identity. Their most intense rivalry is with Mersin İdman Yurdu in the "Çukurova Derby," a match representing the economic and industrial competition between the two major cities. The club currently plays at the Yeni Adana Stadyumu, which replaced the historic Adana 5 Ocak Stadium as their primary venue. With an average squad age of just 19.4 years, the organization is now relying heavily on youth development to rebuild after a crisis that pushed the historic entity to the brink of relegation. The situation deteriorated rapidly starting in 2024. A combination of poor results and severe financial mismanagement led to a double blow: sporting relegation to the TFF 1. Lig in March 2025 followed by administrative sanctions. In February 2026, FIFA docked the club 12 points due to outstanding debts, pushing them from the second tier directly to the third league for the 2026–27 campaign.
