ABC News

ABC News is the news division of the American Broadcasting Company, a major U.S. television network owned by The Walt Disney Company. It was founded on June 15, 1945, as ABC's radio news operation, expanding into television news with the launch of the ABC Television Network in 1948. The division grew out of the NBC Blue Network, which the FCC forced NBC to divest in 1943, eventually becoming ABC under Leonard Goldenson's leadership from the 1950s onward. Today, ABC News is headquartered at 1211 Avenue of the Americas on Manhattan's Upper West Side, with Almin Karamehmedovic serving as president since August 2024.

ABC News' flagship evening newscast, ABC World News Tonight with David Muir, consistently ranks as the most-watched evening newscast in the United States, averaging over 8 million viewers nightly. Other key programs include Good Morning America, a morning news-talk show; Nightline, a late-night news magazine; 20/20, an investigative news magazine; and This Week with George Stephanopoulos, a Sunday morning political affairs program. The division also operates ABC News Radio, the 24/7 streaming service ABC News Live, and a growing podcast network featuring shows like Start Here and The Note.

ABC News has won numerous awards, including multiple Peabody Awards and Emmy Awards for its reporting. In recent years, the division has expanded its digital presence and faced challenges, including a $15 million defamation settlement with President Donald Trump in 2024 over a false report by George Stephanopoulos. Despite this, ABC News remains a dominant force in broadcast news, with its evening newscast holding the #1 spot in total viewers for over 300 consecutive weeks as of 2024.[edit]
